Expelled for pushing Cav? I thought they gave out medals and bonus seconds for that.
Thoughts?

But I think the DSQ was a bit too much. Maybe a points penalty would have been more suitable
Looked at several angles at this accident and I believe that Sagan was in the wrong. If you look at the front on view, Cav was right next to Sagan when following Demare's wheel and then Sagan moves towards the right barrier, which causes Cav to go down because he has nowhere to go.
Disclaimer: I might be a bit bias but I believe that I'm actually a bigger fan of Sagan than Cav,
i found a website that had a half dozen different camera views, but i couldn't find it again to post here. i thought it was the best since the overhead view and the straight ahead view are very different.
The comments on cycling sites about this incident made me question my vision, several times.
I also was also 100% sure that cycling fans were smarter than soccer fans. I'm not so sure about that now.
No. Cav was on Demares wheel.
Cav was not on Demares wheel, there was a clear gap between Demare and Cavendish which Sagan probably saw as an option to follow Demare. His slower speed was the main problem.
I informed myself about this on the internet, and all opinions beside the ones from the Dimension Data were against the desqualification.
The romanian television said that on the image in the front you can see the following:
Cav falls before Sagans elbowing. And he is not even touched by Sagans elbow.
What they did is very dangerous.I agree Sagan should have been punished, but desqualification
On a sidenote, I do think that the rulings are way too inconsistent. Demare should also have been punished for his sprint. But even though the flick with the elbow didn't hit Cav, it was still jepardizing action. You cannot flick your elbow in a sprint. Same with Renshaw headbutting. Very dangerous.
I get you don't like Cavendish ;) But in this case Cav had all right to stay on Demares wheel. The gap was wide open as Sagan ilegally changed course, and sideways hitting Cav with his rearend. Try imagining your favourite sprinter instead of Cav, and see if you still think it was his own fault ;)
changes course and by that jeopardizes other riders...but what happens further (elbow and all) should not be judged too much. Cavendish was already falling and it was not the reason for the fall.
I have seen this, Sagan tries to follow Demare which starts earlier on with a firm jump. He doesn't have the highest speed yet, so there he dives into a gap where Cav was already riding and trying to find Demares wheel. Now Cavs 'stupid' determination is to go ahead and dive into the very tiny dangerous gap instead of slowing down. Only thing you can hold against Sagan is that on 'slow' speed he g
Nooky I agree, Cavendish is one of the worst bullies in a sprint. And there are plenty of sprints Cav should have been DQ'ed from. But in this particular sprint I don't see him doing anything wrong. Have you looked at the link?
Jonas Pro Cycling, Cavendish doesn't know what is wrong or right to do. He has hardly been judged for his behavior so he carries on with a riding style like this. A style which usually comes in play when he isn't in his best form. If that is normal behaviour be my guest, in my book he is a nutcase that got what he deserved. Too bad that the jury doesn't give a signal to him either, that his way of
Cav is no angle. But in this case he did nothing wrong, but follow the wheel on front of him. Look how much Sagan changes lane, the hole for Cav is surely there before Sagan trying to get Demares wheel.

Cavendish, karma is a bitch. Good he is out, irresponsible rider.
And the ellbow on top of that was of course totally inappropriate. Contact or not.
Cav was following Demares wheel. Sagan changed path and squeezed Cav up against the barrier.Fair decision.
Sidenote. Demare should have been declassified, for changing path two times.
He pushed him away, that was not a balancing thing. Fair decision
Oliver Cookson - assistant sporting director of dimension data
Brian Cookson - UCI president
hmm??
In my opinion Cavendish is more to blame for this than Sagan. He choose a sprinting line which didn't really exist.
Cavendish is out with a # clavicle that showed on MRI.
The outcome shouldn't affect Sagan's penalty but it's a great shame for the race to lose those two.
So unprofessional to say they take him out 80 points, 30 sec´s and the second place, and then because some trolls taht have never gotten into a bike call sagan a pig they disqualify him. Although I´m happy for Démare´s victory cause he´s french and I´m french :D

I agree with Cokol, Cav should not have taken that line. Sagen was naturally going to squeeze that line out because he was going around a slower rider in front of him and he was in front of Cav and naturally drifting over. If Cav thought he was in the right he would be screaming bloody murder. Sagan put his elbow up as a natural response because he thought he was going to be squeezed out himself.
Sagan seemed to deviate from his line to jump onto Demare and Cav should have had a right to follow Demare's wheel/line. Relegation from the stage would seem a must, relegation + points penalty would seem fair, disqualification from the tour seems excessive.
Yep,to strong decision.Just to win Demare the green jersey. What's the tour without Peter?:(
disgusting by the tour tu dsq him

disgusting by the tour tu dsq him

Completely over the top. Cav took a line that was not there, Sagan's elbow seemed to go up to rebalance himself. And he apologized to DDD straight away
